Eco Philosophy

The IFA 10th Global Conference on Ageing is an environmentally conscience event. The following green initiatives will be undertaken:

Name badges, program books and delegate envelopes will be printed on 100% recycled paper
Making Conference abstracts available on CD Rom only, eliminating the need to print an abstract book.
Specific IFA 2010 Note pads and pens will not be printed for the Conference.
The Conference satchel will be made from a recyclable / re-usable material and printed with a water-based ink

The supply of delegate materials including satchels and program books will be tailored to the registration numbers thereby avoiding over supply. Additional satchels will be ordered unprinted so that return of unwanted or unused satchels to the supplier can be arranged
Name badge return facilities will be provided on-site so that delegates can recycle their name badges and lanyards
Electronic signage will be used where possible to reduce the need for printed signage
Conference hotels that are a short walking distance from the venue will be selected to minimise the need for transport

The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre contribute to environmental sustainability through the following:

All crockery and cutlery is re-usable.
Recycling and waste stations are available in the Centre for delegate use.
The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre's lighting system adjusts to the amount of natural light available throughout the day, reducing electricity usage.
The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre's toilets are dual flush and waterless urinals are also available.

The ecological footprint of the IFA 10th Global Conference on Ageing will be measured and documented as part of an ongoing commitment to understand the impacts and improve the efficiency of IFA Global Conferences.

Site Visits of Age-Friendly Facilities
An opportunity to visit one of five organisations that provide a range of community, residential care aged and strength training programmes for seniors in metropolitan Melbourne, is being offered to conference delegates on Monday 3rd May 2010. Age-friendly facilities include Jewish Care, mecwacare, The Brotherhood of St Laurence, Wintringham and Living Longer, Living Stronger. Click here for more information.
